100s Day
January 28 - February 14, 2020
100s Day is a popular elementary school celebration/activity/event commonly observed in grade one or two in North America. To signify the 100th day of the school year, students are asked to bring in a collection of 100 objects to present to the class. The school day is devoted to using the collections to make the abstract concept of “100” concrete in many forms.
Through quantifying activities, students’ collections are used to explore differences in the size, weight, length and value of different groups of a hundred (eg, the weight of 100 pennies vs. the weight of 100 cotton balls). The act of comparing, contrasting, speculating, and meticulously studying each others’ collections both clarifies and further complicates the quantity “100.” Much like exhibition making itself, the tradition of 100s Day is predicated on using materials to bring clarity to the obscure.
The exhibition 100s Day brings together collections of 100 by 9 artists:
James Albers
Sarah Anderson
Claire Geddes Bailey
Lucien Durey
Natasha Katedralis
Clyde Hunt
Emma Metcalfe Hurst
Kiel Torres
Chelsea Yuill
Please join us on Thursday, February 13 from 6–9PM for a 100s Day party. All proceeds from the cash bar will be donated to the Unist'ot'en Camp legal fund.
