Nandia Syabrina
Nandia Syabrina is born in Jakarta and currently practices from the unceded, ancestral, and traditional land of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish Nations. Syabrina practice challenges the notion of high art with incorporating the mundane of ordinary life. Exploring relations between culture and identity, Syabrina seeks to raise vernacular stories from the contemporary urban.

Spread across the city, Invisible (but very tangible) Borders is inspired by urban graffiti found on the backs of trucks in the streets of Jakarta, Indonesia. The stickers act as a colorful and eye-catching introduction to the darker questions of borders, immigration and inequalities. In order to bring attention to the invisible ubiquity of this topic, this small intervention reclaims the space it resides on and disrupts the viewer’s day.
